Epic

A large body of work that can be broken down into multiple user stories. Epics represent significant product capabilities or business initiatives — too large to complete in a single sprint. For example, 'User Authentication' is an epic that might contain stories for registration, login, password reset, and social OAuth. Product teams use epics to organize and plan at a higher level, tracking progress across multiple sprints. When an epic is too large to estimate precisely, teams split it into smaller stories they can refine, estimate, and deliver incrementally. Epics provide context for individual user stories and help stakeholders understand the bigger picture.
