Burnup Chart

A graphical representation that tracks two lines over time: work completed and total scope. Unlike a burndown chart, a burnup chart makes scope changes visible — when the total scope line rises, stakeholders can immediately see that new work was added. The completion line trends upward toward the scope line; when they meet, the project or release is done. Burnup charts are especially useful for longer releases or projects where scope evolves significantly. They provide a clearer picture of progress against a moving target and help teams and stakeholders have honest conversations about trade-offs between scope, time, and quality.
